    CHANGES TO PRESCRIPTIONS FOR APPLIANCES

We have been asked by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to make patients aware of changes to the way ALL prescriptions for appliances are ordered and supplied. Appliances include ostomy and catheter products, hosiery and some other devices. Items will be supplied on a monthly basis.

If you use appliances and get prescriptions for them you will no longer be able to ask your supplier (local Pharmacy or Specialist Mail Order Supplier) to order your items for you. Prescriptions will no longer be forwarded to the supplier on your behalf. You will have to make arrangements to collect your own prescriptions and post them to your supplier yourself if you use a mail order service. Local Pharmacies can collect your prescription from the surgery for you, but you or your representative must order the items directly from the surgery.

The changes will come into effect on 1 January 2014.

    Prescriptions must include the following:

    • Patient’s full name, date of birth and address.

    • Details of the appliances needed including manufacturer’s name, specific type of appliance, size and product code.

If full details (including product code) are not given your prescription may be delayed or not supplied. Should you have difficulty, please speak to a member of staff.

Thank you in anticipation for your co–operation.
