Posted: 29.07.2026 | Author: Mr Mark Simpson

    Meningitis B Targeted Vaccination Programme

Following a Meningitis B outbreak in England there will be a targeted programme across all Nations to control and reduce further transmission in the population.  There are three groups of patients.

    1. The practice will pro–actively invite eligible young people in the DOB range of 02.07.2007 to the 01.07.2008 to have their vaccine.  All patients in this age group are eligible, irrespective of when they leave school or what their education plans are.

This is a two dose vaccine with the 2nd dose being administered at least 28 days after the 1st.  As some young patients may have moved home to start further education, access to the 2nd dose is available in different countries.   A record card will be provided to the patient as evidence of the 1st vaccine being administered.

Self booking text invitations will be sent to eligible patients shortly to book in for the vaccine.  Please don’t delay as the text is only valid for 7 days.

    2. Patients aged under 25 (starting in higher education for the first time in the UK or Ireland) born after 21.07.2001 are also eligible for a vaccine subject to confirmed evidence(As below).

    3. Patients under 25 and starting Residential Further Education born after 21.07.2001who will be living in further education accommodation for the first time are also eligible for a vaccine subject to confirmed evidence(As below).
