  • Meningitis ACWY

    Posted: 27.08.2015 | Author: Dr J Millar

Meningitis C single vaccine is offered as part of the routine childhood vaccination programme and also to students starting tertiary or higher education (usually aged 18).

There has been some concern in the UK due to other strains of meningitis emerging especially A,W and Y strains that would more typically be seen overseas (especially in sub–Saharan Africa).

The ACWY meningitis vaccine is to be given to all students leaving for tertiary education for the first time aged 18–25, please make an appointment in the treatment room if this applies to you.

There will be a proposed catch up for school age children starting this year and developing over the next number of years, children will be called by either school or the surgery directly.
