Outbreak of Mumps

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of cases of Mumps in Northern Ireland since January 2005. Cases are mostly occuring in older teenagers born between 1982 and 1991. Most of those affected have only had one dose of MMR vaccine.

The Department of Health is recommending that any child or teenager who has not received two doses of MMR should be offered MMR as soon as possible. Most of our patients in this category should have received a personal invitation to come and have another MMR. It is not too late for any who have not yet taken up this offer. Please bring your invitation to the treatment room any morning Monday to Friday or Monday to Wednesday afternoons. A few minutes of your time now may avoid the need to take up to two weeks off school, college or work if you Develope Mumps.
